Meganom release plans for sleek skyscraper topped with metal frame viewing platform

262 Fifth Avenue is being developed by Five Points Development, a new U.S.-based venture led by Israeli developer and entrepreneur Boris Kuzinez, and was designed by internationally acclaimed, Moscow-based architecture practice Meganom. The tower will rise 1,001 feet above Fifth Avenue, one of New York’s most iconic streets, in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood near Madison Square Park.

A bold, sleek aluminum and glass skin will be perforated with wide porthole windows on its eastern exterior. On the north and south, three 15-foot wide floor-to-ceiling window walls will have uninhibited panoramic views of the city and beyond.

At its summit, a soaring metal frame will create a striking arched observation deck atop the skyscraper.

Fusing the old with the new, the modern tower will integrate the current 12-story limestone building at 260 Fifth Avenue with a new tower rising on the adjacent 262 Fifth Avenue site. A progressive example of forward-thinking and contemporary design, it will include several “firsts” in terms of its design and environmental sustainability features.

The form of the skyscraper is inspired by a unique structural system that separates the building’s functioning core from its living spaces, creating expansive, unobstructed, column-free and customizable full-floor residences — an inventive design solution unprecedented in a New York high-rise.

Demolition has started on the two vacant buildings on the 262 Fifth Avenue site, paving the way for construction of the tower.

Kuzinez and Meganom have previously worked together on several projects, including the award-winning and iconic Tsvetnoy Central Market in Moscow. 262 Fifth Avenue is the debut project in the U.S. for both parties, and the tower will be the tallest ever built by a Russian architect in this country.

New York-based SLCE is the architect of record for 262 Fifth Avenue, and leading skyscraper structural engineers WSP USA is providing infrastructure-engineering services.
